The slope

I intended to make something loose, expressive, painterly... well, you know: "artsy" stuff :>
It turned out as always though- some dull pseudo-realism -_-;
Tomorrow i'll try again..
(40 minutes,

face drawing practice #7

1 hour

And that concludes the first themed week at mindless440! Yay! \(^o^)/
And probably the last one too! Bacause it was a friggin' disaster! \(^o^)/
I became completely bored halfway >.>
So- no more themed weeks! Ever!
But 3-day-combo-themes are fine. I'll do them instead.

As for the Face drawing practice week:
- every picture was based on a reference photo;
- they are not (and weren't intended to be) portraits- just pictures of faces;
- my personal favourite is #3 :]

face drawing practice #3

1 h

This time I tried to draw Henry from Sanctuary aaand.... suprise! suprise! - he doesn't look like himself at all. damn >:|
And a funny thing- I never knew he's got any facial hair till I started drawing it :P

edit 10/24 : hm, I guess there is some likeness after all 0.o I am not sure though, if it's the eyes or the expression?

face drawing practice #2

1 hour

based on Payton from Pandorum. I messed proportions and he doesn't really resemble Dennis Quaid much :/
But, oh well- that's why I titled it face drawing practice, and not portrait practice- it's good enough, that he looks human at all :3

Spotted

this took me 90 minutes.
It's still needs a little bit of work :/

Here's the initial (nearly) 40 minutes sketch:

It's a very good sketch, mind you. I know exactly where to go from it. All the limbs are more or less in their place, props too. Composition, light and overall mood are set.
but it's so visually unappealing! :(
I just had to finish it up a little.

:T

The little red riding bug 40+

:D

It's the ridiculous bug after additional 2,5 h of work! :]
It's turning out rather fine. The upper body is nearly finished and there is some background emerging ^^
the ... uh.. "legs" are crappy, but I will leave it for another time.
For now- I'm actually a little bit proud :>

The Earth Frog

I remember now, why "Verdun" sounded so nice- I already assigned it to another character a long time ago :( As a back-up name, in fact.
I need to think a new name for this guy here.
I would happily exploit Prison Break's T-Bag some more and name him Knepper.
But I would also like to name him after Vincent Price- who had this uncanny ability to make every movie he starred in, classy and awesome *_*
( Well, there was A Cry of Banshee.... but I guess nobody could save it. Ever! o.o )
But neither Vincent nor Leonard seems to go well with Knepper, so I gues I wil just drop it.
For now.

Don't look anymore!

"Just run!"

It was supposed to be a sort of continuation for "Look!" , but I kinda forgot to put the flying things in :/

I really wanted to make something with architecture in it, hoping to stumble across some way to improve. It didn't turn out that bad, I guess. It's pretty nonsical and unsteady, but still a lot better than I've expected 8)

You've got to help me, Verdun

"I don't really do... helping."

Well, he's appeared here three times already (previously in posts: >_> and :| ), even if he looked "tad" different each time, he surely deserves a name. Verdun has a nice ring to it, so Verdun it is :]
There's this biiiiiiig story about him, I have flying around in my head, and it grows in details and new ideas every time I draw him. Frankly, it became pretty ridiculous by now :/
For the time being I'm looking for the way to make him look antipathetic, hateful even, but not brooding and still showing makings of a hero.

>_>

I tried doing an action scene, and failed miserabily :[

messy lineart..

Cultural infiltration at it's best :D

Above, Peter Pan is spying on an ancient bedtime story practice.

It's friday the 13 and mindless440 is one month old :)
I didn't thought of anything special for that occasion, so I just ignored the time limit (which BTW I need to change) and spent approximately 2 hours on today's uh.. "sketch".
I'm really bad at drawing anything made of straight lines, so the architecture in this one was a royal pain :/ I like the theme, though :D

The drawing itself needs so much work. Maybe I could start a finish-up weekend tomorrow?

No kidding!

"You actually thought, I was some kind of a vampire"
(said a guy with a hole in his chest, calmly)

it took me over an hour to make it anything other than a mess of lines and random splahes of color :(
I still find it hideous though -__-

it's Theodore (who may be difficult to recognize- having no face and all) and a bad guy (who supposedly isn't a vampire).

seems like working on the frog prince threw me right back into my usual slowpoke pace..
no kidding...
o.o

5 hours already?

and another hour:
(spent mostly on frog, crown, and lower part of the picture)

and yet another hour:

(frog again and the background)

and the fifth hour:
a little bit of everything. defining the dress and the hair, which turned out too blond :/ gotta change it later

Princess and the frog

I used a reference photo for this, and really tried to capture the likeness- to no avail :(
So I gave it additional hour of work:

And it is a tad bit better. I still have to do something about the eyes- they seem to come from to different "sets". The backround also needs a lot of work. So does the likeness -__-

The ultimate vampire flick!

ehehehe
:D
Vampire Bill's and Edward Cullen's look-alikes would have to find enough B rh- blood to save the only girl, they ever loved- Gelena Ilbert ;) From dawn to dusk! :D In California! Aided by Angelus :> And their nemesis would be Nikolai Tesla and someone played by Christopher Heyerdahl >.<

damn!

That would truly be a perfect, cinematic...
... disaster... *__*
I'd definately watch it!

Look!

"Just look and listen."

I read Today's Inspiration blog every day and can't get enough of it. I just keep getting more and more depressed though- all those fabulous illustrations, comps and paintings! Done so fast and skillfuly @__@ And there is actually no place for them in today's market :(
Does trying to get on par with their abilities make any sense anymore?
Well, there are still storyboards, comics and drawing portraits on the streets...
-__-

Anyhow, I tried doing something storyboard-ish today, and, frankly I feel a bit silly for trying to close this gap between talents. I'm not up for this kind of challenge...
...just yet!

Asleep

I used a reference photo for this one.

Drawing children is so hard- they have small faces, but their eyes are freakishly big (as are their foreheads), their noses are short and round, their lips are often deep red, but as the whole all these featurea seem very delicate o_0;
how is that even possible?!

You did good

".. and now we run."

It's the redhead again! :D
He appeared already once as himself, also several other sketches started out as him.
If he is going to recur like that, I should probably name him *_*
Jack would be good- it's a great name for strong characters with a psychotic streak. Jack the Ripper. Jack of shadows. Jack Torrance. captain Jack Harkness :) Poor T-Bag from prison break wasn't probably epic enough to get this name :T
On the other hand- Theodore is indeed a very nice name, and it would suit the redhead well.
It's also uncommon enough- I can recall only a handful of characters that go by this name and virtually no Theodore, I would've ever meet.

"Theodore and the ghost" :]

I guess "the ghost" needs a name as well, shoot.. -__-;

Layers and their power

BEFORE

and

AFTER

meddling with layers properties

I didn't like how it turned out (too bland and chaotic), so I duplicated original layer and played with values. I kinda like the silhouette look with strong splashes of color, but the composition still sucks :/
I wonder if it would be better, if I'd deleted monsters arm?
hmm...

I think I will do a redo/polish-up week sometime soon.
:]

Turn of the century centaur...

and ZOMBIES! =D

The zombies took considerably longer than 40 minutes- around 80-90, I'd guess.
(If I'd be only able to draw this in 40 minutes time, one of my goals for this blog would be complete! o.0)

I like them a lot :D
The pink girl in shorts however, is disastrous! :[

Donkeyskin

"She trembled in fear, for the dress was indeed
as beautiful as the sun itself."

Donkeyskin is such a twisted story! >.<
